In a snowy field in northern Russia there lay a boy. He looked like he was sleeping, but he was far too pale for that. Tall grass and weeds wrapped the boy in a cradle and field mice were his bedfellows as they scurried to and fro, looking for suitable food.
A huntsman clothed in thick garments and carrying a large rifle in search of bears saw the boy from far off and made his way to him. He knelt next to the boy, checking for a pulse, then let his head droop. He stayed crouched there for a minute before he scooped the dead, broken youngster up and began to make the long trek to civilization.
Far above, they were watched.
